Step-by-Step

How to Register for JLPT 2026

Follow these 6 steps to complete your JLPT registration. The process takes approximately 15-20 minutes if you have all documents ready.

01

Visit the Official JLPT Portal

Go to www.jlpt.jp and navigate to the registration section. For Indian candidates, the registration is handled through the Japan Foundation India office or the designated partner portal. Create an account if you're a first-time registrant.

Register early — seats fill up quickly, especially in Delhi NCR centers.

02

Choose Your JLPT Level

Select the JLPT level you want to take (N5, N4, N3, N2, or N1). Choose based on your current proficiency and goals. If unsure, take Nihongozu's free placement test to determine the right level for you.

N2 and N1 fill up fastest — register as soon as registration opens.

03

Select Your Test Center

Choose your preferred test center from the available locations in India. Delhi NCR candidates can select Faridabad, Delhi, or Noida centers. Select a center convenient for you — you cannot change it after registration closes.

Select a center close to home to avoid travel stress on exam day.

04

Upload Required Documents

Upload a recent passport-size photograph (4.5cm × 4.5cm, white background) and a scanned copy of your valid government-issued photo ID (Aadhaar, passport, or PAN card). Ensure documents are clear and within file size limits.

Photo must be taken within the last 6 months. No sunglasses or hats.

05

Pay the Registration Fee

Pay the JLPT registration fee online using credit card, debit card, net banking, or UPI. Fees vary by level — N5/N4/N3 are ₹1,947 while N2/N1 are ₹1,416. Payment must be completed within the registration window.

Save your payment receipt — you'll need it for any refund requests.

06

Download Your Admit Card

After successful registration, download your admit card from the portal 2-3 weeks before the exam. Print it and carry it to the exam center along with your original photo ID. No admit card = no entry to the exam hall.

Verify all details on your admit card — name, level, center, and date.
