How to Check Your JLPT Result 2026
Everything you need to know about checking your JLPT result, understanding pass marks for each level (N5–N1), what to do if you pass or fail, and complete retake information. Your guide to navigating JLPT results with confidence.
How to Check Your JLPT Result
Follow these simple steps to access your JLPT score report online. Results are available approximately 2-3 months after the exam date.
Visit the Official JLPT Website
Go to www.jlpt.jp or the Japan Foundation's results portal. Look for the 'Score Inquiry' or 'Result Check' section. Results are published online only — no postal delivery.
Enter Your Registration Details
Use your JLPT registration number (found on your admit card) and the password you created during registration. If you forget your password, use the 'Forgot Password' link on the portal.
View and Download Your Score Report
Your score report will show sectional scores (Vocabulary/Grammar, Reading, Listening) and your overall score. Download and save a copy for your records. Print multiple copies for future applications.
Receive Your Official Certificate
If you pass, an official JLPT certificate will be mailed to your registered address within 2-3 months after results. Keep it safe — it does not expire and is your official proof of proficiency.
Important: Result Availability
JLPT results are typically released 2-3 months after the exam. For the July exam, results are available by late September. For the December exam, results appear by late February. Bookmark the official JLPT website and check regularly.
JLPT Pass Marks Per Level
Each JLPT level has specific passing criteria. You must meet BOTH the sectional minimum AND the overall total to pass. Failing even one section means you fail the entire exam.
Section Minimum
19/60 (32%)
Overall Total
80/180 (44%)
Details
You need at least 19 points in each of the 3 sections AND a combined total of 80 out of 180.
Section Minimum
19/60 (32%)
Overall Total
90/180 (50%)
Details
Minimum 19 per section and 90 total. N4 is commonly required for basic work in Japan.
Section Minimum

Overall Total
95/180 (53%)
Details

Section Minimum

Overall Total
90/180 (50%)
Details
The most sought-after level. Minimum 19 per section and 90 total. Required by most Japanese employers.
Section Minimum
19/60 (32%)
Overall Total
100/180 (56%)
Details

Key Rule: Sectional Pass Required
If your overall score exceeds the passing threshold but you score below the sectional minimum in even one section, you fail the entire exam. For example, if you score 60/60 in Vocabulary and Reading but only 18/60 in Listening at N5 level (minimum is 19), you will not pass — despite having a high overall score.
